In the 2008 HBO miniseries “John Adams”, a banner is seen: “Appeal To Heaven”. The American patriots invoked the deity for assistance in their revolutionary cause.
Among Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Tales and Sketches” is one called “Old News.” Hawthorne, in the early 1800s, perused old newspapers and was moved to summarize their contents. Within “Old News” we find, in a described “rebel newspaper” of the Revolutionary War times, a depiction of “a continental officer, with the Declaration of Independence in one hand, a drawn sword in the other, and, above his head, a scroll, bearing the motto ‘We Appeal To Heaven.'”
So too, one afternoon in April 1689, during a tense stalemate between the people of Boston and the forces of Sir Edmund Andros, a heartfelt cry was heard: “Oh! Lord of Hosts, provide a Champion for thy people!” It was an Appeal To Heaven for assistance in the peoples’ cause. (Background: “The Gray Champion at Boston”, Ersjdamoo’s Blog entry of April 16, 2013.)
Emanuel Swedenborg (1688 – 1772) once defined Faith as “being moved by what is true because we want to do what is true simply because it is true.” (New Jerusalem 112, in the New Century Edition translation by George F. Dole.)
The opposite of truth is lies. Subtle serpent lies is what we have been saturated by in continuous mainstream “news” accounts about the Tsarnaev brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar, long-since declared guilty of the Boston Marathon bombings by irresponsible “news” purveyors. Secret unnamed officials whisper anonymously into the ear of mainstream “news” flunkies and those scribes of Satan report the innuendo as fact. “Case closed.”
Lovers of truth for its own sake are in a similar position now to that of the common people of Boston in 1689, in their stand-off with the forces of Sir Edmund Andros: “Oh! Lord of Hosts, provide a Champion for thy people!”
If you go by what the Bible says, this material world is the realm of the Prince of Lies. (“Now is the judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast out” – John 12: 31. “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers…” – 2 Corinthians 4: 4)
The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers. The unbelievers are the opposite of those who are moved by what is true because they want to do what is true simply because it is true.
In the Lord’s Prayer we desire, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.” We Appeal To Heaven that its Truth shall come down and defeat the Prince of Lies, whose present domain is the material Earth.
We who are moved by what is true because we want to do what is true simply because it is true cannot possibly overcome the Prince of Lies without an Appeal To Heaven. “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.”
Perhaps, if and when Dzhokhar Tsarnaev receives a fair trial, he will be found guilty. But a trial in a court of law is how guilt or innocence is supposed to be determined, not by secret whisperers telling half-truths to a sycophant press!
