“What is the condition of your son, Dzhokhar?”, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva and Anzor Tsarnaev were asked during a news conference in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, on April 25, 2013.
Zubeidat, Dzhokhar’s mother, replied, “There is a really bad wound on his right neck, right here. He cannot eat real food. He gets nutrition by through a tube.”
“You must want to see him,” continued the questioner.
“That question is really. Of course, mother — what mother would not want to see their child, her child?” answered Zubeidat.
“Have there been threats against your family?” asked a questioner at the news conference.
“Yes,” replied Anzor, Dzhokhar’s father, “they say, ‘Terrorists, get out of here.’ They call, yell, throw things.”
The questions covered several aspects of the Tsarnaev family’s experiences. One subject covered was the mysterious “Misha”, a new friend of Tamerlan Tsarnaev whose presence coincided with a drastic personality change in Tamerlan. Misha (last name unknown) has a brother named Sergey (or Sergei) revealed Zubeidat at the press conference. (Background: “Mystery Man Misha and Tamerlan Tsarnaev”, Ersjdamoo’s Blog entry of April 28, 2013)
Further information on Misha also was disclosed at the Dagestan news conference of April 25th. Stated Anzor Tsarnaev about Misha and Sergei, “He [Misha] is Russian-speaking. Moreover they [Misha and Sergei] were from Baku [in Azerbaijan]. From Baku when there was the war. Their father is a famous gymnastics trainer, their father. His son Sergei is a professor. His brother [Misha’s brother is] a senior professor of history, he made a world map, I don’t know.”
Wanted for questioning in regard to the Boston Marathon bombing of April 15, 2013: Misha (last name unknown) and Sergei (Misha’s brother). Misha is Russian speaking and is from Baku. Misha’s father is reportedly a famous gymnastics trainer. Misha’s brother Sergei is a senior professor of history, known for making a world map.
Ruslan Tsarni, uncle of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, “claims that Misha, an Armenian convert to Islam, had a huge influence on the elder brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev: ‘Somehow he just took his brain.'” (“Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s Friend & Teacher Misha, the Bombings’ Mystery Man”, by Anna Nemtsova and Christopher Dickey. The Daily Beast, April 24, 2013)
Update on “Wanted for questioning”: Misha, Russian speaking and from Baku, moved to Armenia at some point.
Zubeidat, the mother, adds that Misha has (or had) a red beard and is “an intellectual.” (Daily Beast, op. cit.)
There is suspicion that Misha may be a Salafi. But Zubeidat says no, Misha is “pure Muslim.” (Ibid.)
The radical Salafis aspire to a pure form of Islam, reports the Daily Beast (op. cit.) In distinction to the Salafis are the Sufis, also known as the Whirling Dervishes. The Salafists have been usually unrelentingly hostile to Sufi practices. (“Sufi-Salafi relations”, Wikipedia, April 27, 2013)
Update on Misha: Suspect may be hostile to Whirling Dervishes.
The International Business Times reports as of April 25, 2013 that Misha has been described as a chubby Armenian exorcist. He has been called “the red-bearded Misha, the man who ‘brainwashed’ Tamerlan.” Ruslan Tsarni, a.k.a. “Uncle Ruslan”, “described Misha as ‘chubby, a big guy, big mouth presenting himself with some kind of abilities as exorcist . . . having some part-time job in one of the stores, not married. All of the qualifications of a loser, just another big mouth'”. (“Boston Bombing: Who is the ‘Chubby Exorcist Misha’ who Brainwashed Tamerlan Tsarnaev?”, by Umberto Bacchi. International Business Times (U.K.), April 25, 2013)
