Orwellian Erasure of Bashar’s Wife

Asma Assad, the wife of Dr. Bashar al-Assad, the Abraham Lincoln of Syria, has been erased from the pages of history!

The job of Winston Smith in George Orwell’s dystopian novel, 1984, is to re-write past newspaper articles so that the historical record always supports the current party line. Winston Smith works for the Ministry of Truth in Orwell’s famous tale. (Acknowledgement to Wikipedia entry.)

Winston Smith lives in a world of perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance, and public mind control. The “public mind control” would be the “news” fakers. The Orwellian rewrite of history would be the total disappearance from Internet of a Vogue magazine interview of Asma Assad.

In “The Only Remaining Online Copy of Vogue’s Asma al-Assad Profile”, one Max Fisher claims a Vogue magazine interview transcript, titled “A Rose in the Desert”, has been mostly scrubbed clean from the historical record. Max Fisher claims “the text can still be found at a website called PresidentAssad.net.” But when Ersjdamoo clicked on the link, all he found was, “Sorry. Scrubbed clean. (Signed) Ministry of Truth.”

Ersjdamoo did find the presidentassad.net web site, but could only find an excerpt of the Vogue interview: It seems there is a Mosque in Syria said to entomb the remains of St. John the Baptist. “We all kneel in the mosque in front of the tomb of Saint John the Baptist,” stated the wife of Bashar Assad. “That’s how religions live together in Syria—a way that I have never seen anywhere else in the world.”

Max Fisher’s report (op. cit.) fortunately contains further excerpts from the now-outlawed Vogue interview of Asma Assad. She is “a rare combination: a thin, long-limbed beauty with a trained analytic mind who dresses with cunning understatement.”

It turns out that, before the Orwellian rewrite by the “News” Faker’s Ministry of Truth, Syria was “known as the safest country in the Middle East.” Unlike in the United States, in Syria the women, according to the disappeared Vogue report, “earn as much as men.”

Asma Assad is “breezy, conspiratorial, and fun” said Vogue, before the history was rewritten.

The new, Ministry of Truth approved version of Asma Assad appears in a Yahoo “Shine” report written by one Elise Solé. In “The Controversial Life of Syrian First Lady Asma Assad”, we now learn that Mrs. Assad is “Instagramming seemingly inauthentic photos of her on a tour of purported goodwill…” The U.S. State Department is reported to call Asma Assad’s Instagram account “nothing more than a despicable PR stunt.”

Mrs. Bashar Assad is said to be “a modern-day Marie Antoinette” because she goes on “shopping binges” at a time when “19 percent of Syrian’s live below the poverty line (compared with less than 1 percent before the war).” But, responds one commentator to the Yahoo “Shine” article, “Wow 19 per cent of Syrian’s live below the poverty line. That’s less than here!” (According to a May 30, 2013 Salon.com article, half of Americans live below or near the poverty line.)

Even though Yahoo “Shine” suggests Asma Assad is another Marie Antoinette, “It didn’t bother John Kerry and his wife from having dinner with her and her husband,” observes another commentator.

But that was then, and this is now. The Ministry of Truth is working feverishly behind-the-scenes to erase the old history and rewrite same in accord with the New Thinking ™ about Syria.

One Response to Orwellian Erasure of Bashar’s Wife

What the hell is the point of this post? That vogue article is all over the internet. What is this conspiracy about erasing the interview from the internet?
