Staring Into the Pit of Hell

‘It’s not wise for Europe to play gas roulette with Russia’

On April 12, 2014, William Engdahl, political analyst and author, was interviewed by Russia Today. An embed of the video is hopefully available above.

War-mongering from Washington including saber-rattling by Victoria Nuland and the State Department was seeking to maximize confrontation with Russia, charged Engdahl.

“There’s a circle in Washington that wants a new Cold War… They’re backed by the U.S. military industry, they’re backed by powerful rich families, names like Rockefeller and so forth,” Engdahl alleged.

A “circle” in Washington means, in other words, a faction. Not all of Washington is hot for a new Cold War.

When countries like Russia and China began cooperating in energy development, the idea “Who needs the United States and its war machine” began, in Engdahl’s analysis. Europe is among those wary of war mongering. Recall Victoria Nuland’s famous remark, “F*** the EU.” She said that because Europe in general was dragging its heels about ramping up trouble in Ukraine. Nuland meant by her remark, “We don’t need the EU to help us stir up trouble.”

Nuland is obviously part of the “circle” in Washington which wants a new Cold War. She is married to one Robert Kagan. Kagan was one of the founders and directors of the Project for the New American Century.  Kagan’s Project for the New American Century is famous (or infamous) for advising in 2000 that America needed “some catastrophic and catalysing event – like a new Pearl Harbor”. Then Lo! The surreal events of September 11, 2001 (9/11) provided the “new Pearl Harbor!” (Background: Ukraine Is April Fool?, Ersjdamoo’s Blog entry of April 10, 2014.)

There is a hushed, reverential, cathedral-like atmosphere at the State Department press briefings. No Bronx types allowed, s’il vous plaît. At least once, however, the press got cranky at a press briefing. Reason: a sumptuous banquet had been provided beforehand, but someone goofed up and forgot to include the dessert! [1]

Victoria Nuland used to give the State Department press briefings. Lately she seems to have been replaced by one Jen Psaki.

A “circle” in Washington has been stirring up trouble in Ukraine. There is a saying which begins, “If Americans knew what is being done in their name…” What is being done in our name? According to Engdahl, “You have a government in Kiev that is composed of neo-Nazis, the Right Party, the Pravy Sektor and the Ukrainian National Assembly. These go back to the – the Nazi support party in Ukraine – the Third Reich and Hitler during the Second World War. So it’s a very dicey and raunchy government that the U.S. State Department has pushed into power.”

Engdahl added that somehow we must find a way out of the escalating tensions in Ukraine, “otherwise we’re staring in the pit of Hell.”

The entrance to the pit of Hell opened wider on May 2, 2014. On that day the Odessa Massacre occurred. As usual with such a highly-charged situation, there are conflicting reports about what exactly happened. So for now, let us go with the Bloomberg News version of events. [2]

The tragedy began with an attack on a pro-Russia camp by “assailants” who “set tents on fire and beat everyone who tried to flee”, stated one eyewitness.

The assailants were persons “backing Ukrainian unity.” They set tents on fire and beat everyone who tried to flee, stated another eyewitness.

Fleeing the assailants, the pro-Russian people “were chased into a building that went up in flames.”

Molotov cocktails helped cause the fire in the building, leading to the deaths of at least 46 people. But who threw the incendiary devices? Kiev blames pro-Russians who, they say, “threw Molotov cocktails from inside.” In this version, the pro-Russians fled from Ukrainian unity assailants who had just set their tents on fire. Once inside the building, these pro-Russians somehow found Molotov cocktails. From inside the building these pro-Russians, according to Kiev, were such bad aimers they could not throw a Molotov cocktail out the window.

This would be a good story to track down: Who did throw the Molotov cocktails? In time, books will appear describing the whole Ukraine situation. But until things become sufficiently historical, a fog of deceit surrounds the tragedy of May 2, 2014. Gradually, as the fog dissipates, more solid facts will be seen.
