Annuit Coeptis (He Favors Our Undertakings)

NATIONAL TREASURE (2004) – Official Movie Trailer

Last night, at 11:13 pm Central Time, as the new moon commenced, the gardeners placed the seeds in the ground. Some were heard to say, “Annuit coeptis.” It was part of the astral magic. By choosing an auspicious time for the planting, the seeds, it was believed, would grow especially well. (Background: New Moon Today, Ersjdamoo’s Blog, May 18, 2015.)

The words “Annuit Coeptis” can be found on the one-dollar “Federal” Reserve note. They are part of the Great Seal of the United States. These Latin words mean, “He favors our undertakings.”

On September 18, 1793, President George Washington laid the cornerstone of the U.S. Capitol. Jenkins Hill was renamed Capitoline Hill, later shortened to Capitol Hill. In Rome, the Capitoline Hill lay between the Forum and the Campus Martius. The words “Novus Ordo Seclorum”, also part of the Great Seal of the United States, are from Virgil’s Eclogue IV (line 5): “Magnus ab integro seclorum nascitur ordo” (the majestic roll of circling centuries begins anew).

George Washington joined the Masonic Lodge in Fredericksburg, Virginia at the age of 20 in 1752. During the War for Independence, General Washington attended Masonic celebration and religious observances in several states. He also supported Masonic Lodges that formed within army regiments. At his first inauguration in 1791, President Washington took his oath of office on a Bible from St. John’s Lodge in New York. [1]

Washington DC was a thoroughly planned city – it did not evolve haphazardly. Those who have looked at a map of DC spot immediately the symmetry that structures the federal city. A book by David Ovason, The Secret Architecture of Our Nation’s Capital, argues that behind the city structure lies a Masonically-inspired tribute to Virgo. [2]

Like gardeners planting at an auspicious time, Masonic “planting” ceremonies in Washington, DC were carefully made to coincide with beneficent aspects of the stars.

In the New Atlantis, the society Francis Bacon hints at is none other than the Rosicrucians. In that book he writes, “You shall understand that about Three thousand years ago, or somewhat more, the Navigation of the World was greater than at this day… the Great Atlantis (that you call America) which have now but junks and canoes, abounded then in tall ships.”

Francis Bacon, while studying law at Gray’s Inn, helped found a secret society: “The Honourable Order of the Knights of the Helmet,” dedicated to Pallas Athena. This ancient goddess was known by the Greeks as the “Spear-Shaker.” [3]

“We find that today,” wrote author Virginia Fellows, “few know how vital a part Francis Bacon played not only in Newfoundland but in the founding of Jamestown. A careful search of the archives of history reveals that Bacon drew up the papers for the king’s signature granting the charter for the Virginia Company of London.” [3]

Bacon was the guiding light for a secret society honoring Pallas Athena. The state seal of Virginia does not show Queen Elizabeth I, the so-called “Virgin Queen.” The state seal of Virginia shows Pallas Athena, the “Spear Shaker.” And “Virginia,” so-called, historically includes the North American continent and not just what is now the state of Virginia. [3] Bacon was also a shareholder in the Virginia Company, according to author Nicholas Hagger. Ever since Scotland’s King James VI (England’s James I) brought Templarism to England when he was crowned British king, there seems to have been a secret Masonic plan to form a New Atlantis in North America. Francis Bacon was deeply involved in Masonry. Hagger cites author George Tudhope (Freemasonry Came To America With Captain John Smith In 1607) in support of there having been a secret birth of the United States. “There is an abundance of evidence,” claims Tudhope, “to show that a secret society was the prime mover behind the colonization of Virginia, America, and the founding of the Grand Lodge of the Free-Masons in 1723.” [4]

Dame Francis Yates connected Francis Bacon with the secret Rosicrucian society in her book, The Rosicrucian Enlightenment, which devotes an entire chapter to Bacon. In Bacon’s book, The Advancement of Learning, learning is described as “illumination”, and Bacon plans for a “fraternity in learning and illumination.” The Advancement of Learning was published in 1605 and Yates considers its suggestive expressions “significant in the context of the times.” [5]

The Rosicrucians, in turn, connect with Giordano Bruno and animist ideas favored by devotees of purported writings of Hermes Trismegistus. “Animism”, according to my dictionary, is “the doctrine that all life is produced by a spiritual force separate from matter.” A mechanist reaction consequent to dispute over the authorship of the Hermes Trismegistus books turned things on their head: now, according to the mechanists, it was not spirit, separate from matter, which produced life, but rather matter itself which had randomly produced it.

However George Washington and other Freemasons present at the Capitoline cornerstone ceremony apparently did not believe that matter had randomly created life, else why did they invoke astral magic for the ceremony? And who is this “He” in Annuit Coeptis who favored the undertakings?
