The departing administration of Dwight D. Eisenhower saddled the incoming administration of John F. Kennedy with the Bay of Pigs plot. Now the incoming administration of Donald Trump is being handed a fait accompli by the departing Barack Obama administration, which is moving to encumber the Trump administration with another Bay of Pigs plot, this time against Russia.
Thus reads the description for my latest video, “Bay of Pigs for Trump”, published to YouTube on December 11, 2016. The clip, which clocks in at 6 minutes and 32 seconds, can hopefully be viewed at the top of today’s blog entry.
In March 1960, President Dwight D. Eisenhower allocated $13.1 million to the CIA to plan Fidel Castro’s overthrow. The CIA proceeded to organize the operation with the aid of various Cuban counter-revolutionary forces, training Brigade 2506 in Guatemala. What became the Bay of Pigs invasion was placed on the shoulders of John F. Kennedy by the preceding administration.
And now, increased hostility to Russia is being placed on the shoulders of Donald Trump, even though he may wish to pursue a friendlier foreign policy with Moscow. Again, as during the Bay of Pigs planning, the CIA is involved. The incoming administration of Donald Trump is being saddled with another Bay of Pigs, this time an investigation aiming to prove that Moscow has been running a plot to disseminate “fake news” in the United States.
Reports the World Socialist Web Site: As one of his final initiatives before handing over the White House to Donald Trump, President Barack Obama has ordered US intelligence agencies to conduct a “full review” of alleged attempts by Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
It is “Obama’s parting shot at Russia,” discerns the World Socialist Web Site. But it is really the U.S. establishment’s attempt to influence incoming-President Trump’s foreign policy.
However Donald Trump has already, publicly, broken with Obama, reports Politico. Trump has rejected the preordained conclusion that Russia has been meddling in the U.S. election. And, reports the Washington Post, there are “growing tensions” between Donald Trump and U.S. intelligence agencies such as the CIA.
After the Bay of Pigs fiasco, President Kennedy is reputed to have said that he’d like to “splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds.” But instead, it was JFK who was splintered into pieces, on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. (It was what Richard Nixon later called, “The Bay of Pigs thing.”)
There are alleged to be 200 Kremlin-controlled “alt right” Internet news outlets in the United States. On the other side of the fence is the mainstream news. Whom can we trust?
The situation is like the Boy Rangers in the 1939 movie, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Jefferson Smith battles the powerful Taylor political machine, which controls all the newspapers. But Smith enlists an “alt right” group, the Boy Rangers, who have their own small newspaper. In a clip from the film, included in my video, we see “Ma” Smith giving orders to the Boy Rangers, and Jefferson Smith’s mother does look suspiciously like a Muscovite.
(Some of the above is satirical.)
