“Jim,” said Senator Richard Burr at the start of Senate hearings on June 8, 2017, “allegations have been swirling in the press for the last several weeks and today is your opportunity to set the record straight.”
“Jim” was James Comey, the former FBI Director.
“So are they all, all honorable men,” said Marcus Antonius in the so-called “Shakespeare” play, Julius Caesar. The assembled senators as well as James Comey are all honorable men and women.
“You’re fired!” had said President Donald Trump to Comey on May 9, 2017. Comey told the honorable senators, “It confused me when I saw on television the president saying that he actually fired me because of the Russia investigation.”
Asked Senator Burr, “Do you have any doubt that the Russian government was behind the intrusions in the D triple C systems and the subsequent leaks of that information?”
“No, no doubt,” Comey replied.
Then Senator Mark Warner mentioned memos said to have been written by Comey. “Now, the chairman and I have requested those memos. It is our hope that the FBI will get this committee access to those memos…”
Right after several meetings with Trump, Comey says he had written memos to himself in order to document what had just happened.
“Well,” said Senator Warner, “again it’s our hope particularly since you are a pretty knowledgeable guy and wrote this in a way that it was unqualified this committee will get access to that unclassified document. It will be important to our investigation.”
Where are the Comey memos? Who has actually seen them?
