Meet Nikolas Cruz

Where are the eyewitnesses? Did anyone actually see Nikolas Cruz shooting anyone on February 14, 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida?

Keeping this really simple: If you are on trial for murder, there is usually a witness or witnesses who testify, under oath, that they saw you do it. The only eyewitness I have discovered so far who saw Nikolas Cruz at the scene of the crime is student Alexa Miednik, who had a brief chat with Cruz as they both exited the building. And Alexa Miednik stated there was more than one shooter involved! (Background: Multiple Shooters at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Ersjdamoo’s Blog, February 26, 2018.)

Eyewitness Miednik saw Cruz at the school, yes. But she did not see him shoot anyone. So Nikolas Cruz, on trial for his life, is facing a prosecution which has no eyewitness at this point who can testify against him.

Cruz on trial for his life, but not to worry: His questionable public defender seems to already have surrendered to a plea deal.

No paraffin test. A paraffin test is a test in which a paraffin cast of the hand of a person suspected of firing a gun is subjected to chemical analysis to determine the presence of powder particles. [1] No mention of any paraffin test on Nikolas Cruz has been found.

Meet Nikolas Cruz. In 2014, he was transferred to a school for children with emotional or learning disabilities, and returned to Stoneman Douglas High School two years later. State investigators reported he had depression, autism, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. [2]

Nikolas Cruz evidently has “diminished capacity.” Besides being a legal defense, diminished capacity also points to Cruz not being able to understand what is now happening. Autistic Cruz is out for a walk and Officer Friendly offers a ride. Cruz is taken in and booked. He gets a public defender who easily leads him through hoops, like a trained seal: “Now you say this, Nikolas. Now you do that.” The next thing you know, Cruz has accepted a plea deal and it is “Case closed.”

Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Wrote T.S. Eliot:

And the Son of Man was not crucified once for all,
The blood of the martyrs not shed once for all,
The lives of the Saints not given once for all:
But the Son of Man is crucified always… [3]

I am not saying Nikolas Cruz is on a level with Jesus. Just that, as suggested by T.S. Eliot, certain patterns keep repeating: in this case, the pattern of a lynch mob.

And remember: “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25: 40)
