The Son of Man was not crucified once for all. The blood of the martyrs was not shed once for all. The lives of the Saints not given once for all. But the Son of Man is crucified always. (Background: Meet Nikolas Cruz, Ersjdamoo’s Blog, March 8, 2018.)
On Good Friday, April 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. It was Thaddeus Stevens, leader of the “Radical” faction of the Republican Party, who had “warmed into life the brutal instincts of [Edwin] Stanton, [Joseph] Holt and [Lafayette] Baker, to have Lincoln assassinated.”
Scapegoats had to be found, and quickly. Judas Iscariot for the deflection was John Wilkes Booth, who really had shot Lincoln. Additional scapegoats included Mary Surratt, the first woman executed by the U.S. federal government. But the true architect of Lincoln’s murder, Thaddeus Stevens, escaped justice.
In the case of Jesus, he was the scapegoat. He took the blame for the sins of the world. His so-called trial was a joke. A lynch mob demanded, “Crucify him!”
Behold Nikolas Cruz, who takes away the sins of Broward County.
But the fury over the February 14th Broward County Massacre is NOW. Trials take time. While we impatiently wait for the crucifixion of Nikolas Cruz, an inanimate scapegoat is being used to deflect attention from sober inquiry into the facts of the Valentine’s Day high school murders.
Facilitating the lynch mob fury have been members of public school teachers unions. Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, and school administrators “to take part in a #NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods.” Bus transportation will be provided for the furious scholars. Teacher will not mark you “absent” for this one.
The guns did it! Hang them from the highest tree!
The hooting mob of yesterday in silent awe return
To glean up the scattered ashes into History’s golden urn.
