Language of the Angels

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” said the Filio similem hominis to John of Patmos. (Revelation 1: 8) Besides suggesting a realm beyond time, the Alpha and the Omega signify All in the aggregate. Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet; Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet: Between them they encompass the All.

In the Other World, each letter of the alphabet signifies some thing, and a vowel signifies something of affection or love. “Of this origin is spiritual and angelic speech, and also the Scriptures. But this is an arcanum hitherto unknown; for all angels and spirits have a universal language, which has nothing in common with any language of men in the world.” Thus disclosed Emanuel Swedenborg in The Apocalypse Revealed.

Somewhat of this is corroborated by Harold Bayley in a book originally published in 1912, The Lost Language of Symbolism. Long ago, the creation of every word was in itself a poem embodying a bold metaphor. But before words were created, there existed “some marvellously ancient, prehistoric, almost extinct parent tongue.”

Nebuchadnezzar dreamt of a statue. Its head was of gold; its chest and arms were of silver; its belly and thighs were of bronze; its legs were of iron; its feet were partly of iron and partly of clay. (Daniel 2) Swedenborg explains a possible aspect of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream: There have been four faiths, belief systems, or “churches” (as Swedenborg calls them). Each of the “churches” is associated with an age: The Golden Age, The Silver Age, The Bronze Age, and The Iron Age.

The first “church” existed before the flood. The flood, besides being an actual inundation, signifies a flood of lies (which we are also now experiencing).

The second “church,” tied to the Silver Age, corresponds roughly to the Egyptian dominance. This church also existed in the Middle East. This church “came to a close and perished as the result of various forms of idolatry.”

The third “church” was the Israelite church. Over time, it too lost its predominance.

The fourth “church,” the Iron Age church, was the Christian church. According to Swedenborg, it was experiencing its death throes circa 1750. (True Christianity, by Emanuel Swedenborg. Volume 2, chapter 14)

Swedenborg does not say this, but I intuit the fifth belief system or “church,” the part of Nebuchadnezzar’s statue having feet partly of iron and partly of clay, to be the faith in “science.” Like the previous faiths, science began well enough, but has become increasingly deteriorated due to a flood of lies. My discernment of this involves partly the situation in Europe. The “European Union” is soon to become “lean and mean.” Many of the current member nations will either depart or be expelled. Then the “European Union” will consist of 10 member nations. “And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads…” (Revelation 13: 1, emphasis added)
